Legionnaires’ disease: Recent Miami outbreak claims life of Epic Hotel patron

Legionnaires’ disease is defined as a severe case of pneumonia caused by a bacterium. Rather than being spread through direct contact, as some contagious diseases are, Legionnaires’ disease is usually contracted through inhaling the bacterium through a mist of vapor from water.

In recent Miami news, three people have recently become ill with Legionnaire’s disease at the Epic Hotel, while one succumbed to the disease. The cause of the recent cases appears to be contaminated water.
